Greetings!
Today has been a bustle of activity! An elderly group of 40 to 50 travelers arrived around 9:30 this morning equipped with their walking sticks and bottles of water, ready for our site. After a brief introduction of Hovenweep by Ranger Todd, this adventurous group was off, and it was all I could do to keep up! They were incredibly nice and truly interested in the monument which was refreshing to be with. Most of them completed the 2 mile hike around the ruins, in a good pace... with me running to catch up behind them! It certainly made the morning go by quickly!
Last night, Julia's parents arrived at Hovenweep. It has been 8 months since she last saw them, so needless to say, they were a bunch of arms and yells for a while. Julia prepared an excellent dinner of marinated pork with onions and apples, grilled veggies, pasta salad, and homemade peach ice cream for desert. Her parents, as well as myself, were quite impressed with the delicious dinner. Mr. Bell is an acting/english/history teacher that has an amazing sense of humor along with his multiple accents. In his blue cowboy boots, white goatee, and boyish smile, he easily had us in hysterics throughout dinner with his stories and mini performances. Mrs. Bell is quite calm compared to Mr. Bell and Julia's theatrical nature and it is easy to see she is the calming force in this crazy family. She is incredibly nice and the two of them were wonderful to have over for dinner.
Sitting with the Bell family at the dinner table sure made me miss my own family. I hope everyone is doing well at home! I miss you all lots! Take care!
